How to choose a folding e-bike

Folded size beats wheel size. If it has to fit a specific boot or cupboard, measure that space first and compare it against the folded dimensions on each product page.
Weight is the thing people underestimate. Folding e-bikes run from roughly 23kg to 30kg. If you'll carry it up stairs or lift it onto a train, every kilo counts.
Small wheels ride differently. 14 and 16-inch wheels are easiest to store but feel every pothole. 20-inch is the usual compromise; 26-inch folders ride like a normal bike but fold bulkier.
Battery capacity buys range. A 7.5Ah pack suits short urban hops. For longer commutes look for 13Ah or more.

Are folding electric bikes road legal in the UK?

Folding makes no difference to legality. What matters is whether the bike meets the Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle rules: a continuous rated motor output of no more than 250W, assistance that cuts out at 15.5mph (25km/h), and working pedals that must be turned for the motor to help. Bikes meeting all three need no licence, tax, insurance or registration, and can be ridden from age 14.
