Throttle and public-road use in Great Britain

A 250W label or 25km/h setting alone does not establish EAPC compliance. The complete cycle must have usable pedals, no more than 250W maximum continuous rated motor power, an assistance cut-off at 15.5mph, and the required markings and safety equipment. Walk assist limited to 3.7mph (about 6km/h) is outside the throttle type-approval requirement. A twist-and-go cycle introduced after 1 January 2016 that can propel itself without pedalling beyond walk-assist speed requires type approval or individual approval, even if it meets the EAPC power and speed limits. An approved twist-and-go EAPC can still be treated as a pedal cycle; a throttle does not automatically make every bike unlawful.

Using pedal assist, avoiding the throttle or choosing a lower display setting does not establish compliance. Department for Transport guidance also treats cycles with a selectable mode capable of motor propulsion above 15.5mph as motor vehicles. Where the supplied configuration or required approval has not been verified, do not use the bike on public roads or cycle paths as an ordinary EAPC. Use only on suitable private land with permission unless the applicable road-use requirements are met. Read the official EAPC and throttle guidance.

How fast does it go?

Assistance cuts out at 25km/h (15.5mph), which is the UK legal limit for an electrically assisted pedal cycle. You can pedal faster than that under your own effort — the motor simply stops helping once you pass it.

How far will it go on a charge?

The 48V 18.2Ah battery gives an estimated 50–80km (31–50 miles) per charge. That's a large battery for a 250W bike, and it's the main reason the M20 covers more ground than most fat-tyre models at this price.

Where you land in that range depends on how much you pedal, plus hills, headwinds, cold weather, tyre pressure and rider weight. Riding on throttle alone sits at the lower end; pedal assist gets you towards the top.

How long will the battery last?

The 48V 18.2Ah pack stores around 874Wh. As a general guide for lithium-ion e-bike batteries, expect several hundred full charge cycles — typically in the region of 500–800 — before capacity noticeably drops. For most riders that's several years of regular use.

You'll get more from it by charging indoors rather than in a freezing shed, avoiding leaving it completely flat or sitting at 100% for weeks, and letting it reach room temperature before charging after a cold ride.

Is it road legal in the UK?

Road-use compliance has not been verified for the exact supplied configuration. A 250W rating and 25km/h setting alone are insufficient: throttle behaviour, maximum continuous motor rating, selectable modes and any required vehicle approval must also be checked. Do not use this bike on public roads or cycle paths as an ordinary EAPC unless those requirements are confirmed.

It offers a pure-power (throttle) mode alongside pedal assist, and throttle operation is the one area where legality depends on the delivered configuration. Check the current GOV.UK EAPC rules before riding on public roads.

Who is it for?

The M20 offers a moped-style silhouette, a long saddle and a large battery. Its pure-power throttle mode means road-use compliance must be verified; it is not represented as a confirmed road-use EAPC.

The 20 x 4.0-inch fat tyres add grip on wet roads, gravel, grass and loose ground, and combined with front fork and seat post suspension they take the edge off rough surfaces. At 38.8kg it's substantial but still manageable, and the adjustable seat post means it suits a range of rider heights.

Will it fit me, and can I move it?

At 38.8kg the M20 is heavier than a standard bike but lighter than an electric dirt bike — one person can move it, though lifting it up stairs is awkward. The adjustable seat post covers a reasonable range of rider heights. Check you can get both feet down comfortably before riding.
